The body of a 29-year-old woman, Mahalakshmi, was found dismembered and stored in a refrigerator in Bengaluru.

The discovery was made after the landlord called her mother, reporting a foul smell coming from Mahalakshmi's apartment.

Mahalakshmi's body had been chopped into over 30 pieces and stuffed into the fridge, according to police reports.

The woman lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment in Bengaluru's Vyalikaval area, separated from her husband.

Her mother was informed by the landlord after neighbors noticed the disturbing smell emanating from the house.

Mahalakshmi's husband rushed to the scene after hearing about the incident, though they had been living separately.

Police suspect the murder occurred two to three days prior to the discovery of her remains.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, with the report yet to be released.

The case bears a chilling resemblance to the 2022 murder of Shraddha Walkar, who was killed and dismembered by her partner in Delhi.

In that case, Walkar’s body was cut into 35 pieces, stored in a refrigerator, and later dumped across the city.

The horrific nature of these crimes has shocked the community and raised concerns about similar brutal acts of violence.
