Overview

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking a General Engineer to join its dynamic team. Duties and Responsibilities

The General Engineer will:

  • Apply engineering fundamentals in areas such as materials strength, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Work on projects involving various engineering fields, ensuring the highest standards for materials, construction, and system design.
  • Propose, administer, and supervise professional and scientific work related to engineering tasks that are not specifically classifiable under other engineering series.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Successful completion of security clearance investigations may be required.
  • Pre-employment physical may be required.
  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • Positions may be filled at different pay band levels.
  • Transcripts are required for education verification.

Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree in Engineering:
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program (ABET-accredited) or courses covering key areas of engineering science (e.g., statics, dynamics, thermodynamics).
  2. Combination of Education and Experience:
    • College-level education and/or technical experience that provides a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices.
  3. Professional Registration:
    • Candidates with professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. jurisdiction are eligible.

Specialized Experience (For higher FV levels):

  • For FV-G: Candidates should have one year of specialized experience in roles similar to those described, such as assisting engineers in reviewing proposals, evaluating designs, or providing technical assistance.
  • For FV-H, FV-I, FV-J, and FV-K levels: Applicants must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the previous level, along with more advanced responsibilities such as analyzing systems, managing projects, or providing leadership in engineering tasks.
